Role

I was part of a 3 person design team to improve the user flows of an early stage product for an EdTech company aimed at empowering youth to explore careers and connect with professionals for advice and mentorship.

Internship

As part of my intensive UX/UI curriculum, I got the opportunity to intern as a product designer for Go Pursue. Their mission is to provide young students opportunities to explore their careers by connecting with professionals and external work-based opportunities. The project revolved around researching, designing, prototyping, and testing identified improvements to the student user flow.

Learnings

This project taught me a lot about embracing ambiguity and being empowered with the freedom of refining an entire product. I collaborated deeply with the founder and developer, and understood more about the relationship between prioritizing product improvements and business goals. I spent much time asking questions, exploring designing multiple iterations of solutions, and seeing designs go live almost immediately after approval.

Outcomes

The biggest outcome of my project was achieving the cross-functional buy-in for the various design improvements to this product, so much so that they launched several critical features I designed. This included adding additional messaging features, such as blocking and reporting users, and adding more visibility to their work opportunities page on their home screen. The suggestions covered multiple user flows, including onboarding, messaging, account profile, and explore/search. In many instances, my designs went live shortly after presenting it to the product and engineering team. At the end of the project, the founder said the designs provided a roadmap to their year ahead.
